Conference: Engineering, Your road to success

  • High School Students

The Engineering School of the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez campus (UPRM), the department of Physics and Chemistry Arecibo Campus (UPRA) and ISMuL-STEM collaborate to organize a career orientation activity called, “Tu Ruta al Exito” (Your Road to Success), for students interested in pursuing Engineering, Science or Mathematical careers (STEM).

We invite the high school students from public and private schools near the Arecibo campus, through their science and mathematics’ teachers. Using this approach we ensure the students that attend this activity are really interested in the careers mentioned above.

A question and answer session with Dr. Agustín Rullán is held,  the Associate Dean of the UPRM Engineering school and his staff, who are the department heads of several engineering programs, represent the Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Industrial, Chemistry, Surveying and Civil engineering departments.

First, students attend the presentation of UPR Mayagüez’ engineering programs in the Arecibo University theater. Then they visit the lobby of the University and walk through several booths with access to brochures and written information. Students may also interact with both undergraduate and graduate students of each engineering program.  After this they visit the Aerospace Education Laboratory.
